The Native Plant Series, hosted by Johnson County Conservation, is gearing up for fall with local experts presenting a variety of fascinating and educational topics. The next session, on Sunday, Sept. 13, will feature “The Host Plants Nobody Plants” with Gina Bartleson, FDC Enterprises (Forestry Development & Conservation) biologist. She will explore native plants through the eyes of wildlife, with a focus on seasonal bloom times and specific wildlife that depend on these plant species throughout the year.

Bartleson has a bachelor’s of science degree in biology from the University of Iowa and a master’s in biology from the University of Memphis. She serves as a board member for the Iowa Prairie Network, where she works to support and provide native habitat and conservation goals.  She also was a contributor to Wild Ones, where she served as a grant reviewer to enhance education and outreach for the organization. 

Following her presentation, Bartleson will lead a guided native seed harvest around the Conservation Education Center’s prairie surroundings.
