Iowa City Climate Ambassador Program Seeks Applicants

The Iowa City Climate Ambassador training program is returning and is now accepting applications from residents interested in becoming local climate action leaders.

Applications will be accepted through Jan. 30, 2026. The program is designed to inform and empower community members to lead effective climate action efforts in Iowa City.

As Climate Ambassadors, participants will:

  • Learn about climate science and effective climate communication
  • Connect with others engaged in local climate action
  • Build communication channels among neighbors, community groups, businesses, and city leaders
  • Take action through personal commitments and volunteer opportunities
  • Inspire others to engage in climate solutions

The ten-week training program runs from Feb. 10 to April 14, 2026, and combines self-paced online learning modules with weekly group meetings held both in person and online. An optional online session will be offered during Spring Break. Weekly meetings are expected to last 90 to 120 minutes, with participants spending approximately 2–3 hours per week on program activities.

Training sessions will be guided by staff from Iowa City’s Climate Action and Outreach Division.

More information and the application are available on the Climate Ambassador webpage. Applicants who are not selected for this session will be notified when the next application period opens.
