Trees please . . .

BY LINDA SCHREIBER

Do you need some shade in your landscape? Are you thinking of planting a windbreak? Maybe you want to do something good for Mother Earth. If any of those issues are meaningful or attractive to you – plant trees.

Monarch Research is offering an opportunity to purchase trees through its Planting Forward for Woodlands tree restoration program. Beginning Aug. 7 until Aug. 26, landowners living in Johnson and Linn counties may order trees – while the supplies last.

The minimum order is five trees, the maximum order is 150 trees. Thirty, high-quality native tree species will be available. The cost is $25 for 3-gallon or $50 for 7-gallon containers.

The focus of the Planting Forward for Woodlands program is to replace the extraordinary number of trees lost during the derecho AND to increase native habitat for all animal pollinators. The goal is to plant 75,000 trees by the end of 2023 which makes the public’s participation in the program so important.

Visit the Monarch Research website at MonarchResearch.org to download a species selection pdf, review program details and place an order.

Planting, care, and tips are available on the website and will be handed out during tree pickup at 4970 Lakeside Road, Marion, Iowa. Delivery is available for $75 with a minimum order of 25 trees.
